Just another day

And the ‘cold’ tap in the bathroom is still leaking

– Staining the ceramic in the sink

And my shoes are still all scuffed around the edges

And my pen still keeps on running out of ink

                                    ~

And the street-light on the corner still illuminates

The fresh graffiti, screaming from the wall

(And) the memory of the ‘summer nights’ still lingers

And the autumn leaves, remain where they might fall

                                       ~

And the mail man still delivers to the mail-box

And the film stars still all manage to look ‘cool’

(And) our crazy World is still spinning into chaos

A gun-man shoots five children dead at school

                                       ~

And in another season, in another place

A Journey goes by hidden – struggle etched upon a face

The breath of quiet surrender or a rage that won’t go away-

Lie forgotten, or un-noticed; – ‘Just another day

                                     ~

And the mother still delights in her new baby-

(And) we’re still in awe of the miracle of birth

‘The rich are still just steadily getting richer

And the poor still struggle to recognize their worth

                                     ~

And folk still walk their dogs out in the evening

‘Lovers still kiss – on a park bench

And the waiter in the café still waits tables

And the soldiers still are fighting in the trench

                                     ~

(And) as the day finally closes all around us

(And) we reflect on what we’ve heard and what we’ve seen

We still draw our personal conclusions-

On how we feel this day, – ‘today’ has been

                                   ~

Still out thoughts are self-contained and so self-centered

Still based upon the ‘now’ and the ‘right here’

How this day has been for other all ‘beyond us’-

We just don’t think, and still have no idea

                                  ~

And the ‘cold tap’ in the bathroom is still leaking

Staining the ceramic of the sink

And my shoes are still all scuffed around the edges

(And) my pen still keeps on running out of ink…
